The Agua Caliente Tax Department is responsible for administering and enforcing Tribal tax laws and other laws assigned to it and has all the powers and duties prescribed by law for such purposes. In all proceedings prescribed by law, the Tax Department may act on behalf of the Tribe. The Tax Department administers the possessory interest tax, the sales tax, and the transient occupancy tax.
The Tax Department oversees the imposition and collection of the Tribal food and beverage sales tax on the Agua Caliente Indian Reservation. The Tribal food and beverage sales tax generates revenue for Tribal governmental and local government services and programs that support the Tribe's goals of tribal self-determination, self-sufficiency, and growth as a strong tribal government.
Importantly, 100 percent of the sales tax revenue collected will be retained within the local community. A portion of the proceeds will be used to support public safety services in the cities of Palm Springs, Cathedral City, and Rancho Mirage – the cities in which retailers operate.
